Siemens Energy Accelerates Manufacturing Intelligence with Alteryx

The Siemens Energy manufacturing site in Tampa, Florida, operates in a highly dynamic and fast-growing environment. Teams need to make decisions quickly across finance, operations, supply chain, and engineering. But the analytics foundation underneath the business could not keep pace with the speed of complexity of the business.

The company used Alteryx to change that. What started as a finance-led initiative became a cross-functional analytics capability that unified data, automated reporting, and improved transparency.

Disconnected systems and manual reporting slowed critical decisions

Before Alteryx, data processes at the Tampa site were slow, manual, and fragmented. Data lived across SAP, manufacturing execution systems (MES), spreadsheets, and internal tools — with little governance or validation.

Weekly business-critical reports were hand-assembled, and core KPIs were slow to surface and difficult to trust. That meant leaders were making decisions based on outdated or incomplete information, with no clear way to trace issues back to their source.

And without a shared, timely view of performance, the plant risked reacting to problems after they had already affected cost, throughput, or yield. “In many cases, it felt like the business was steering us instead of the other way around,” said Andre Stolze, Controlling Team Lead at Siemens Energy.

Low-code analytics workflows built by business users

The turning point came when Stolze introduced Alteryx as a way to bring structure to the fragmented data environment, without relying on traditional IT resources. It was also well-suited for finance users, who had strong domain knowledge, but lacked deep coding expertise. “We needed a low-code, business analyst-friendly, and flexible audit-friendly way to connect silos, automate work, and give finance and operations a common truth,” Stolze said.

The transformation began pragmatically with smaller finance use cases that could prove value, build trust, and show teams what was possible. “Rather than attempting a full-scale transformation upfront, we focused on building initial workflows that demonstrated immediate value,” said Zach Fodor, Financial Analyst on the Controlling Team.

From there, the platform scaled rapidly. “Alteryx quickly became the backbone of our analytics solution,” Fodor said. The scope expanded beyond finance into operations, supply chain, planning, and engineering.

Today, Alteryx connects SAP, MES, and other data sources into governed workflows that feed dashboards across the organization. What started with one or two dashboards grew into a comprehensive reporting environment with more than 40 dashboards and analytical views.

Outputs are shared via Tableau and other tools, making insights accessible to more than 100 users. “Alteryx was a key enabler to compress decision cycles, institutionalize best-practice analytics, and align finance and operations on one set of numbers,” explained Fodor.

The team also used Alteryx to address underlying data quality issues. Building workflows in the platform required reconstructing logic that previously lived in SAP and spreadsheets. “The organization now places much greater emphasis on data quality, data governance, and transparency,” said Ray Chinkoo, Accounting and Controlling Professional at Siemens Energy.

Faster decisions, stronger performance, and a shared plant view

With Alteryx in place, Siemens Energy fundamentally changed how decisions are made on the shop floor. “We moved from a reactive mode of operation to a proactive and data-driven approach to managing performance,” Chinkoo explained.

Analytical processes that took weeks are now complete in hours, and reports that were delivered every month or quarter are now available daily.

In combination with broader operational initiatives, the Tampa site scaled output by 102% from 2023 to 2025. The plant also reduced scrap costs by about $4.4 million and improved profitability per output unit by 42%.

There’s also been a significant cultural shift. Teams are now actively requesting data to support decision-making and are more aware of how data can be used to track and improve performance over time.

Scaling analytics across sites and deepening real-time capabilities

With a strong foundation in place, Siemens Energy is now focused on scaling its success beyond the Tampa facility. Plans include expanding Alteryx adoption across additional sites, standardizing data pipelines, and strengthening governance across global operations.

That foundation is now taking shape. With Alteryx, Siemens Energy has a scalable analytics environment that helps business users connect data, automate manual work, improve transparency, and act faster. What began as a reporting redesign in finance has become a model for how a complex, fast-scaling manufacturing site can use data to run faster, more transparently, and with more confidence in every decision made.

BENEFICIOS DE USAR ALTERYX
Governed data foundation established a scalable AI-ready architecture

Connecting SAP, MES, and spreadsheet data into a single governed workflow eliminated shadow analytics and gave more than 100 users a common, auditable data source —reducing compliance exposure and establishing the trusted foundation the team needs for AI and advanced scenario modeling.

Business-led analytics reduced reporting cycles

Alteryx gave finance and operations teams direct ownership of their analytics, replacing manual data assembly with automated workflows that deliver daily outputs instead of weekly reports. That capacity shift contributed to a 102% increase in site output and a 42% improvement in profitability per unit between 2023 and 2025.

Faster signal-to-correction loops reduced scrap cost

Alteryx compressed the time between a performance signal and a corrective action on the shop floor, reducing scenario analyses from weeks to hours. The result was $4.4 million in scrap cost reduction and an 11% yield improvement, driven by surfacing production data before defective conditions could compound.
